Orchard 1.2 Performance Settings - Warmup Module Goes Native
We've talked quite a bit about improving the performance of Orchard in shared hosting environments since the release of Orchard 1.0. Topics have included the Orchard Warmup Module, Orchard KeepAlive Module, Orchard and IIS Application Pool Timeouts, etc. In Orchard 1.2 there is not only a noticeable improvement in performance, but the Orchard Warmup Module is now native to Orchard CMS as opposed to being a separate Orchard Module in the Gallery!
Orchard Performance Settings in Orchard 1.2
After you have installed or upgraded your Orchard Website to Orchard 1.2, there is a new Performance Option in the Settings Section of your Orchard Administrative Area. Choosing Performance provides a Warmup Area where you can choose to have various pages cached by Orchard and served during Orchard Startup. Orchard will serve the cached versions of these pages while it is starting to provide a better user experience. After startup has occurred, Orchard will then begin to server the dynamic versions of these pages.

If you regularly read our blog, you will notice these new Performance Settings native to Orchard CMS 1.2 are the same settings introduced in the Warmup Module in Orchard 1.1. Rather than downloading a separate Warmup Module from the Orchard Gallery as we did with Orchard 1.0 and Orchard 1.1, these performance enhancements are now native to Orchard 1.2.
As an Orchard Website Owner, the Performance Settings allow you to choose which pages you want to have cached by Orchard and how often and when you want new versions of these pages re-generated. Orchard 1.2 will serve these cached versions during startup and re-generate them based on your preferences. For more information you can read our blog post on the Warmup Module. You can also browse all of our posts on Orchard Performance to find ways to improve the performance of your Orchard Website.
Conclusion
As we mentioned in our previous post on the release of Orchard 1.2, the Orchard Developers have spent a lot of effort improving the performance of Orchard 1.2 and the native addition of the Warmup Module makes it that much better!
